Rock Band SW Update, With Some Bad News…

SPECIAL NOTE ON THE RB FORUMS FROM HMXSEAN!

Hey all,

So there is a 360 title update coming out for Rock Band today, PS3 will follow and we’ll let you know when we have an idea when it will drop. What’s in it? A couple of things.

First of all - it updates RB1 so you will still be able to purchase DLC from the Rock Band store. Downloading this patch is required if you’d still like to do that.

Second - Lowers the threshold on gold stars making it easier/possible to gold star songs. This won’t affect leaderboards as it only affects the threshold, not the score.

Third - Lately a few songs have had unhittable notes. This should be fixed now.

Lastly - It will allow you to export your songs from the RB1 disc to the hard drive for play in Rock Band 2. Official language follows for this feature-

Nominal fee of $4.99 (400 Microsoft points) required for export of Rock Band 1 soundtrack to compensate music licensors for expanded use.The following Rock Band disc tracks will not be available for export into Rock Band 2: * “Paranoid” as made famous by Black Sabbath, * “Run to the Hills” as made famous by Iron Maiden, and “Enter Sandman” by Metallica. In addition, the title update will also be released simultaneously in Europe. Tokio Hotel’s “Through the Monsoon” from the European disc release of Rock Band will not be available for export into the future European release of Rock Band 2. (* Indicates a cover song, all other songs are original master recordings.) Expanded usage rights for these particular tracks were unable to be secured from the music licensors for this feature.

Moving Pictures Rock Band DLC paused
posted by: TweakyPete in Rockband with the tags: , , . on 08 27th, 2008 | | No Comments »

Making music on toy instruments is tough enough on its own, but that goes doubly so when players have nothing to strum along to. Rush fans have learned that the hard way this week, given that the promised full-album download of the prog-rock act’s 1981 record Moving Pictures did not make it onto the Xbox 360’s Rock Band store yesterday.

The good news is that Harmonix is aware of the issue. “Just so you know, we know that Rush’s Moving Pictures isn’t up yet,” said community manager Sean Baptiste on the developer’s official Web site. “There is a technical difficulty that is being worked out. I’ll alert you when it is all clear.” The bad news is that, as of press time, Harmonix had not established a time frame for when the DLC will be available.

Rush’s Moving Pictures is the latest full-album download to be added to the MTV Games-published rhythm title. The track pack, which includes such classic rock-radio staples as “Tom Sawyer” and “YYZ,” is expected to appear in the PlayStation 3 edition of the game tomorrow.

Greed: Warner Hates Rock Band and Music

title=I feel bad for Harmonix. I now get a taste of the bullshit CEO and co-founder Alex Rigopulos has to deal with. Read More. POSTED BY: SPONG.COM

Warner Music Group’s CEO, Edgar Bronfman, is not amused with games such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band. He’s so annoyed at the ‘paltry’ sums paid by companies such as Electronic Arts/MTV and Activision Blizzard to license tracks for their games that he is talking about not licensing any more.

WMG recently declared that its net losses were down from $17 million (£8.5) in the second quarter of last year to $9m (£4.5m) this year. It controls labels and connected artists such as Electra (The Doors, Joni Mitchell), Atlantic Records (Led Zeppelin, Bjork, Rush and Sugar Ray), Bad Boy Records (P. Diddy, Dream), Lava Records (Antigone Rising), Roadrunner Records (Sepultura, Nickelback, Killswitch Engage, Black Label Society), rykodisc (The Misfits), Rhino Records (Black Sabbath, The Monkees, Alice Cooper).

Rock Band CEO Slams Guitar Hero
posted by: TweakyPete in Rockband with the tags: . on 07 28th, 2008 | | No Comments »

…And here you have it. Like I’ve been saying for years… When I bought Guitar Hero II for my daughter, I had never played before. She was already an expert on GHI, so I was a bit behind the curve. In addition, I had just seen the GH South Park which had confirmed my suspicions that there was a musical “lack of morality”. The idea just didn’t seem right. Kids thinking they are rock stars by playing a game. So, my first and only song I played was Heart’s Barracuda. I didn’t make it far into the song before failing. In disgust, I never played it again… not because I failed a song I knew note for note, but because I KNEW the notes were wrong. Of course I came off like a little baby, but I still felt justified. NOW HERE IS MY PROOF!
