OMAHA (KPTM) - A traffic stop along Interstate 80 yields two and a half million dollars worth of cocaine. Investigators say it’s the second biggest cocaine bust the state of Nebraska has ever seen.

A massive pile of cocaine hauled in Monday by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. “It’s the biggest one we’ve ever had and it’s one of the biggest in this area,” said Sgt. Ed Van Buren.

One hundred packages, each weighing more than two pounds, were discovered after deputies spotted a mobile home driving on the shoulder of Interstate 80 near 96th Street. “They were very nice, very cooperative, came across as a nice family,” Van Buren said.

Investigators got suspicious when the family, 54-year-old Jose Melendez, 48-year-old Virginia Melendez and 21-year-old Virginia Melendez-Ramirez, started giving different details about who they were and where they were headed.

Agents finding drugs, guns and poinsettias

poinsettiasThe Chron BROWNSVILLE, Texas — While border agents continue to be watchful for smugglers of guns, drugs and the usual dangerous contraband, their work this time of year takes on a decidedly holiday flavor as they also nab forbidden Mexican sausage, tamales and poinsettias.
Border traffic is thick with families on the move for holidays, but the car packed to the gills with gifts and coolers draws customs agents to check for the items many don’t think of as illegal.
“They want to take some of the flavor of the home country to friends or relatives they may be visiting,” said Roger Maier, a spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection in El Paso, where a Mexican-style bologna is a favorite yet impermissible holiday item.
The holiday trafficking usually starts after Thanksgiving and typically includes raw pork to fill tamales, guavas, hawthorn fruit and sugar cane for a hot rum-spiked Christmas punch known as ponche navideno, potted poinsettias and even miniature nativity scenes where dried grass in the manger could be harboring pests.
“It’s usually the same items over and over again,” said Felix Garza, spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection in the upper Rio Grande Valley. Read the rest of this entry »

No Shit: Abstinence Doesn’t Work
posted by: TweakyPete in Drugs, Sex with the tags: , . on 09 10th, 2008 | | No Comments »

Great op-ed on the facts of drugs and sex, and the removal from the human condition. Yeah Right. alternet.org

Recently it was revealed that the 17-year-old daughter of the Republican vice-presidential nominee is pregnant. This announcement was particularly ironic, as Gov. Sarah Palin is a staunch advocate of abstinence-only sex education.

This high-profile pregnancy is stirring a larger debate about how sex education is taught in the United States. What’s clear is that despite strong messages urging young people to abstain, most teenagers, even those who have been admonished time and time again, are not listening.

Our national surveys confirm doubts about abstinence-only education. Last year, a study commissioned by Congress revealed that students receiving abstinence-only sex education are just as likely to be sexually active as those who do not. This research is consistent with the conclusions reached two years ago by a joint Yale-Columbia study of teenage virginity pledges.

The same is true for the other big concern about teenagers — drug use. Look at abstinence-only drug education and you get the same disappointing results as with sex education. Read the rest here.

As reported by the Hearst Whores.

A man died after he was stopped by San Jose police, fought with officers and swallowed drugs, authorities said today.

Prince Swayzer III, 38, of San Jose died at a local hospital Tuesday night after a confrontation that began when he was pulled over at North Third and Hensley streets, police said.

Officers stopped Swayzer because they believed he was involved in drug trafficking, said Officer Jermaine Thomas, a San Jose police spokesman.

Swayzer became combative and resisted arrest and, while struggling with three officers, swallowed an unknown amount of drugs in an attempt to hide them from police, Thomas said. It was not immediately known what the drug was.

Officers stunned Swayzer with a Taser and subdued him. An autopsy will be conducted by the Santa Clara County medical examiner to determine the cause of his death.

No Shit: Amy Winehouse’s brain on drugs?
posted by: TweakyPete in Drugs with the tags: , . on 09 3rd, 2008 | | No Comments »

Well, thank you New York Daily News. I was just wondering why she’s dumb as a stump… jeesh.

Amy Winehouse should really get to rehab, yes, yes, yes! The singer might be suffering from brain damage as a result of some heavy-duty drug use, the New York Daily News reported.

The “Rehab” soul siren has overdosed twice in the past 12 months and her excessive drug use may have caught up with her. In August 2007 she went to the hospital after a binge on crystal meth, heroin and cocaine. In July, Winehouse was hospitalized again after reportedly smoking marijuana for a straight 36 hours.

Doctors are now worried that her repetitive drug use may leave her permanently disabled. The UK’s Daily Mail newspaper reports that Winehouse has “displayed symptoms normally associated with schizophrenia,” and has been warned that if she overdoses one more time, it may be her last.

Well… why do they hate us? Why do they bomb us? What headline could possibly describe why the entire plant sneers at Americans? This one. Can we PLEASE put away the Twinkies and KFC? Is it possible for us to stop concentrating corn in every edible form for our consumption? It seems like I have quite a few questions. My fear is they are all rhetorical. We are all going to Hell. ;(

California to Legalize Weed for Everyone
posted by: TweakyPete in Drugs, Sex with the tags: , . on 07 1st, 2008 | | No Comments »

AS WRITTEN BY LAist.com

There is an initiative in the works that could end up on the November ballot that allows for marijuana to be sold to anyone, and anywhere that already sells alcohol. Its being called The Inalienable Rights Enforcement Initiative. From the full text of the measure:
This initiative will amend the Constitution of California to defend and safeguard the inalienable rights of the People against infringement by governments and corporations, providing for the lawful growth, sale, and possession of marijuana. Marijuana will be taxed through a system of stamps and licenses–a $5 stamp will be required for the sale of an eighth ounce of marijuana and a $50 annual license will be required for the growth of one marijuana plant. To protect participants and encourage participation in the system, such licenses and stamps will be available anonymously in stores where marijuana is sold.
So instead of getting some quack doctor to give you a prescription for $100 because of your supposed “anxiety” or alleged “insomnia”, you will just pay an extra tax each time you buy yourself another 8th.

Alex Grey Sues Juan Pablo Fernandez
posted by: TweakyPete in Drugs, Sex with the tags: , , . on 06 14th, 2008 | | No Comments »

Alex Grey, the most prolific artist in the past 200 years, and psychedelic drugs leader from the 70’s, is suing fellow artist Juan Pablo Fernandez for reselling his artwork. This is an interesting event for Grey since he is fairly open about the use of his artwork, but has had enough of the reselling of his lifeswork online. In parallel, Grey’s artwork is used extensively by the band TOOL, who actually funds legal experts to quash it’s fans from using any of its art in any form.

Tweaky’s Opinion: 6 years between albums… stopping fans from collecting bootleg material. Hey boys, you need to feed the beast. As a long time TOOL fan, I refuse to be part of the TOOL ARMY fan club. Why? You must sign an agreement stating you will not share or posses bootleg or copywrited material. I refuse. I will, of sound mind, collect every piece of unauthorized or authorized material that quiets my inner burning for the art. I will not sell or distribute, but I will collect. Whew, I’ve said my piece.
