LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Porn star Marilyn Chambers, who made waves in the 1970s by having screen sex with an African-American, has been found dead at her Los Angeles home at the age of 56, coroner’s officials said on Monday.

The Los Angeles coroner’s office said an autopsy would be carried out to determine the cause of her death late on Sunday night.

Chambers, whose real name was Marilyn Taylor, broke into the adult film industry by appearing in the 1972 film “Behind the Green Door,” which was among the first pornographic films released widely in the United States to attract mainstream attention.

The adult film caused a stir in part because Chambers was seen having sex with African-American porn star Johnny Keyes.

Chambers made more than 25 porn movies, trading on her earlier role as the blonde cover girl on the Ivory Snow soap box, where she posed holding a baby under the tag line “99 & 44/100% pure”.

She also made several films with late porn star John Holmes, who died of AIDS complications in 1988, and she had flings with careers in music and politics. Chambers ran for U.S. vice president in 2004 on the Personal Choice Party ticket and released the disco single “Benihana” in 1976.

Chambers had a bit part in the 1970 Barbra Streisand film “The Owl and the Pussycat,” and starred in the 1977 David Cronenberg horror movie “Rabid.” But after establishing herself as a pornographic film star, she was never able to break into mainstream films.

COPA, fi required owners of websites with “material harmful to minors” to take it upon themselves to prevent minors from getting access to their sites. The 3rd Circuit, however, ruled that it unnecessarily tramples on the First Amendment to place the burden on the website operators, when tools for parents to control what their children see online exist. Jack Balkin explains:

Not all parents are alike and not all children are alike; different parents might want to block different things. Some might decide not to block access at all but supervise and educate their children about Internet use in other ways. Without criminalizing website operations, the market can produce webservers and browsers to facilitate parental choice, as well third party software solutions, many of which already exist.

Generally speaking, the Internet should place filtering decisions and responsibilities on the end user, not the publisher of the content. There are exceptions to this basic rule, but sexually explicit speech is not one of them.

Anytime time I get the chance to report on Charles Barkley in the boundaries of SDR, I’m happy. I never liked him. He did his best to let the valley down when he played here, so here you go. Here he is, making out with his long lost grandfather.
AP: Charles Barkley told an officer following his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol that he was in a rush because he was on his way pick up a “hot” girl for sex, according to a police report obtained by the Smoking Gun.

When Barkley was arrested in Scottsdale, Ariz., early Wednesday after running a stop sign, the former NBA forward allegedly told the officer: “You want to know the truth? I was gonna drive around the corner and get a b— j–,” according to the notes in the incident report.

Barkley was pulled over in Scottsdale’s Old Town area on New Year’s Eve and submitted to a blood test administered by the Gilbert Police Department.

“I am disappointed that I put myself in that situation,” Barkley said Wednesday in a statement to The Associated Press. “The Scottsdale police were fantastic. Now it is a legal matter and I will not comment further until it is resolved.”

Washington Post - Teenagers Who Make Such Promises Are Just as Likely to Have Sex, and Less Likely to Use Protection, the Data Indicate
Teenagers who pledge to remain virgins until marriage are just as likely to have premarital sex as those who do not promise abstinence and are significantly less likely to use condoms and other forms of birth control when they do, according to a study released today.

The new analysis of data from a large federal survey found that more than half of youths became sexually active before marriage regardless of whether they had taken a “virginity pledge,” but that the percentage who took precautions against pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases was 10 points lower for pledgers than for non-pledgers.

“Taking a pledge doesn’t seem to make any difference at all in any sexual behavior,” said Janet E. Rosenbaum of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, whose report appears in the January issue of the journal Pediatrics. “But it does seem to make a difference in condom use and other forms of birth control that is quite striking.”

The study is the latest in a series that have raised questions about programs that focus on encouraging abstinence until marriage, including those that specifically ask students to publicly declare their intention to remain virgins. The new analysis, however, goes beyond earlier analyses by focusing on teens who had similar values about sex and other issues before they took a virginity pledge.

L.A. Times The number of homeless sex offenders on parole in California has increased dramatically since the approval two years ago of Proposition 83, an initiative that imposed harsh restrictions on where they can live, a state panel reported Thursday.

The Sex Offender Management Board said the number of parolees monitored by the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation — one of the only government agencies to enforce what is known as Jessica’s Law — increased from 88 in November 2006 to 1,056 at the end of June 2008.

“Common sense leads to the conclusion that a community cannot be safer when sex offenders are homeless,” the report states, citing research concluding that unstable housing can lead to recidivism.

Jessica’s Law, which prohibits sex offenders from residing within 2,000 feet of schools and parks where children play, was proposed by state Sen. George Runner (R-Lancaster) and his wife, Sharon, a former assemblywoman, and strongly backed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Read the rest of this entry »

This has got to be the best PR ever! A 22-year-old Sacramento State College graduate, who uses the name Natalie Dylan, is auctioning off her virginity to help pay for school. She says “I don’t think auctioning my virginity will solve all my problems, but it will create some financial stability.”
Dylan says she has already taken a polygraph test to prove she’s a virgin and is willing to undergo a medical exam as well. “I’m ready for the controversy,” she says. “I’m ready to do this.”
Natalie hopes to net up to $1 million dollars from the auction, which will take place in Nevada at the infamous Moonlight Bunny Ranch, a legalized brothel. Ebay reportedly denied her.
“I’m not just looking for the highest bidder,” says Dylan. “I’m looking for someone who is a genuine, overall nice person.” Ironically, Natalie has a bachelor’s degree in Women’s Studies from Sacramento State and wants to pursue a master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy.
